The Wellington Preschool

Philosophy

The Wellington Preschool is a child-centered, experiential school where respect for self, respect for others, and respect for the Earth are practiced daily. Special focus is given to Art, Music, Story-Making, Dramatic play, Laughter, Creativity, and Cooperation.  All activities at Wellington Preschool work toward teaching cooperation, independence and problem solving to prepare our students for school and life!

Wellington Preschool maintains a low student/teacher ratio by choice to make it possible to meet the diverse needs of our children.  We believe children learn and thrive when provided with a nurturing environment that meets each child where they are at and includes developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.

Self-control is an important life skill, and we use the techniques described TAKING CHARGE (by Joanne Nordling) for guiding children and managing behavior. We encourage all parents to read this book! To accommodate various learning styles, we offer structured lessons and activities, as well as free exploration, creative and facilitated play.

We have a special focus on socialization: How to solve simple social problems like taking turns, learning empathy, cooperation and how to be a friend.
